Bar Hooks
It’s involuntary. Standing at a new bar for the first time, instinctively running a hand below the bar top, looking for a hook while hoping there’s no gum. The simple piece of upturned metal brings a quiet sigh of relief, especially in a busy bar, and speaks volumes of a publican. Hooks are welcoming. Some will think of coats and umbrellas. Me? It means I can have a beer without worry that someone’s trying to take my bag from behind me. Or that I’ll be expected to set it on the floor, to hope no spills (or worse) fall its way. –Natasha Godard
