97 Blonde Doppelbock, Capital Brewery (WI). 7.8% ABV (3/13)

Beautiful amber color. Aromas of omelet, dried fruits, honey and wheatgrass with a chewy, fruity medium-full body and a long, seamless and satisfying, citrus crème brûlée, peach jam on toast and delicate earthy hop finish. A wonderfully rich and artfully crafted doppelbock.

97 Doppelbock, Fort Collins Brewery (CO). 9.6% ABV (3/13)

Beautiful blood red bronze color. Intriguing aromas of lightly smoky bacon bits, herb butter on nut toast and omelet with a plush fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a complex tangy, peach crème brûlée, citrus marmalade on dark rye, root beer float, chocolate smoked nuts and grassy hops. A flavor dynamo that will be awesome with barbecue and chili.

94 Salvator Doppelbock, Paulaner Brauerei (Germany). 7.9% ABV (3/11)

Hazy deep amber color. Aromas and flavors of honeyed buttered gingerbread, grainy barley porridge and peach marmalade with vibrant, satiny dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a warm spiced cocoa, caramelized roasted carrot and peppery radish sprout finish. Nicely styled and marvelously balanced for sipping or food.

94 Doppio Malto, Birra Moretti (Italy). 7% ABV (2/12)

Floral honey on cinnamon raisin toast aromas and flavors with a crisp, frothy dry-yet-fruity medium body and a long warming polenta, pepper and radicchio-accented finish. A vibrant all purpose maibock-like beer.

92 Verloene Hosen Uber-Marzen, Grizzly Peak Brewing Co. (MI). 8.6% ABV (3/11) %{Brewpub}

Deep copper chestnut color. Rich aromas and flavors of fruity citrus marmalade, pine cone, honey butter and glazed panettone with a thick, chewy, dry-yet-fruity full body and a crisp, lingering roasted turnip, peppercorn, mustard seed and arugula-watercress-like hop-accented finish. A big ballsy doppelbock to brandish with bison burgers.

92 das Wolf Doppelbock, Bastone Brewery (MI). 7.5% ABV (3/11) %{Brewpub}

Deep russet mahogany color. Dense aromas of burnt sugar, buttery cornbread muffin and oily dark-roasted nuts and root vegetables with a supple fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a warm raisin-sour cherry compote, cookie dough, sautéed pepper-accented finish with crisp grassy hops in support. Delicious and dangerously drinkable.

92 Samuel Adams Double Bock, The Boston Beer Co. (MA). 9.5% ABV (3/13)

Rich reddish bronze color. Rich aromas and flavors of dried fruit compote, molasses and pumpernickel toast with a chewy, fruity medium-full body and array of soy, pepper bread, maple and grassy hops on the long, warming finish. A very nice fireside, winter warmer.

90 Doppelbock, Morgan Street Brewery (MO). 6.3% ABV (2/12) %{Brewpub}

Aromas of date bread toast and cocoa with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a dried fruit and salted nut-accented finish. Delicious.

90 Mambo Bock, Southport Brewing Co. (CT). 10.5% ABV (3/13)

Hazy copper brown color. Aromas of chocolate mousse, cake and dried fruit compote on artisan cheese with a supple, chewy medium-full body and a warming vanilla custard, cherry, coffee and pepper bread finish with grassy hops. Nice vibrancy and flavor and balance that will be great with food.

89 Leavenworth Navigator Doppelbock, Fish Brewing Co. (WA). 8% ABV (3/12)

Deep copper brown color. Lightly smoked dried meat, graham cracker and Mexican chocolate aromas with a chewy, fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body and dried fruit, spice and peppery radish finish. A nice spicy doppelbock.

88 Brunette German-Style Doublebock, Fireman’s Brew (CA). 8% ABV (2/12)

Aromas and flavors of baker’s chocolate and coffee with a supple, frothy fruity medium body and a praline, tobacco and baking spice-accented finish. Solid.

88 Dopple Bock, Sprecher Brewing Co. (WI). 8% ABV (3/13)

Deep brown with a red core. Aromas of chocolate biscuit and delicate citrus and praline with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a nut, spiced pear,and celery soda-accented finish.
