1. “There Stands the Glass” by Webb Pierce (also covered in deeply soulful fashion by the late great Ted Hawkins). My all-time fave—bittersweet, adult, blunt and great fun/therapy to sing and play.

2. “Hungover Together” by the Supersuckers. Hilarious.

3. “What’s Made Milwaukee Famous (Made a Loser out of Me)” by Jerry Lee Lewis. The Killer, telling it like it is.

4. “Pop a Top” by Jim Ed Brown. A killer honky-tonk anthem to the Bakersfield shuffle, the can and bar fellowship.

5. “One More Beer” by Marty Jones. Because it’s the best song I’ve written so far. A firsthand ode to last call and the escapist power of a beer in a music joint. (And a sympathetic bartender at closing time.)

—Marty Jones is “lead singer” for Oskar Blues Brewery and leader of the “Barn Rock & Drunkytonk” band, the Pork Boilin’ Poor Boys
