I really enjoyed this beer, with its smooth aromatics, and subtle but well-managed "nutty" effect, although I would be hard-pressed to identify the nut involved. Overall, this is a delicious, nicely-balanced beer, with a modest hop increment, contributing nicely to a very pleasing overall effect on the palate.

This has a very pretty pale russet-brown color and stands a fine tan head. The nose is softly malty with some chocolate notes. Malt sweetness is offset by moderate hopping in a medium-bodied fruity center. The malt character is nice and juicy, showing caramel and a hint of chocolate. It dries out into a clean, clipped finish. Very tasty, well-balanced and flavorful, certainly more English than American. It got me hankering for a good rib-eye steak, with plenty of cracked black pepper.

Mahogany color. Demerara sugar, rum and dark chocolate in the aroma. Light but smooth in body. Toasted cookies and treacle toffee in the palate. Some yeasty acidity. Restrained and gentle. Reminiscent of the darker type of brown ale once made throughout England (as opposed to the paler, slightly drier, style made in Newcastle and the Northeast).
