Nice nostalgic label suggests old fashioned flavor. On the eye, the nose and the palate, the beer delivers. Black as night, the contrast with the luxurious ecru head is a visual delight. Aromatic nose is chock full of beans, both coffee and cocoa. Taste of rich, earthy, roasted barley malt and oatmeal balances with fresh young floral hops to mitigate the malt sweetness. Recommended as a pick me up, in place of an espresso, or with a dessert like babas au rhum or tiramisu.

It’s says on the label “certified organic.” I’ll certify it “Exquisite.” A superlative creation and true to the style of oatmeal stout as I know it and love it to be. Far surpassing any imported version I’ve ever had. Rich, creamy, nutty, with a mix of caramel, cocoa and roast coffee. Full bodied. Not excessively bitter. Extraordinarily drinkable. I’d pay money for this—and I’d even buy you one, if I was there.

A black beer with a ruby edge and barley white collar of foam leads to a big roasted grain and oily oats aroma—an aroma powerfully reminiscent of an English “milk” stout that uses a lactic culture. Bitter hops break through in the mouth with dark grain and tart fruit. The finish is bitter and hoppy, balanced by rich grain, burnt fruit and chocolate. A brilliant beer, superb with oysters or rich fish dishes.
