Funny label features a turtle in a field of rye, strumming on the banjo. Serious beer features a complex nose—a virtual bouquet of herbal and earthy essence; a stunning turbid tortoise shell tunic; and a complexity of full flavors begging the drinker to slow down and enjoy life. On the palate, bread-like rye and barley balance beautifully with floral hops making this an exciting beer with food. No, I didn’t try it with turtle soup, but I bet it would be good.

With beers like this, I’ll never tire of reviewing for About Beer! What a wonderful hop aroma, flavor and balance of bitterness. Slightly hazy, full-flavored with great body. Strong floral-honey hop characters. A beautiful, spicy, almost black pepper-like floral sparkle in aroma and flavor coming from rye malt. Pale ale that differentiates itself from others. A great session pale ale to enjoy with or without food.

A rewarding, complex beer with a big sultana fruit aroma balanced by spicy hops and smoked malt. Tart, tangy hops; sweet, toasted grain and ripe fruit coat the tongue while the finish a brilliant blend of bready grain, tangy dark fruit and peppery hops. The beer has a sweetness that avoids being cloying and is wonderfully refreshing. Perfect with pizza or pasta.
