A polished bronze color with a fluffy collar of foam that leads into a complex creamy malt, vanilla pods, hop resins and spices aroma. Hop resins fill the mouth—this a bitter interpretation of wheat beer—balanced by malt and spices. The lingering finish is creamy with spices, vanilla and bitter hops. Wonderfully refreshing and a superb companion for spicy food and creamy desserts.
The head, here, provides a low volume friendly discourse on what this beer is all about, along with a deep mahogany color. The aromatics are solid, although not especially Bavarian in character. Weizenbocks are one of my favorite styles, and this beer does not disappoint. The malt character is quite impressive, giving this beer a wonderful finish.
For such a rich beer, it is deceptively drinkable. I’m not too surprised though. Enhanced drinkability is one of the key reasons why brewers make a doppelbock with wheat. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy a second one, right? (I already have my second bottle chilled and waiting.) Lovely layers of toffee, malted milk balls, molasses, and dates are balanced by lighter notes of plum, apple and citrus, with a warming finish.
