  One thread of the American craft beer moment is starting with a style that originates in another country then taking it into a new direction. You’ll find Dogfish Head at the forefront of this effort. Festina Peche is a perfect example, taking the classic Berliner weisse style and fermenting it with peaches. It is light, crisp, quite tart, a little funky, very refreshing and, well, peachy. Best appreciated by those with an understanding of the Berliner weisse style.

  The light head forms and dissipates quickly, more like a cider than a beer. A turbid, grapefruit color looks healthy and surely is. There is a subtle yeastiness in the nose, but I could not identify a peach flavor there, or in the taste. This beer is quite acidic, but not unpleasant. We tried it with a variety of foods including fresh peaches and peach cobbler with little success. Out of peach syrup, we mixed the beer with an ample measure of raspberry syrup for a refreshing and satisfying drink on a hot day.
