Terminal Gravity Brewing
This IPA is made with spring water and snow melt from high in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. It was named Beer of the Year by The Oregonian.

Terminal Gravity has quite a cult following in the Northwest, thanks to a citrusy-pine predominance in both aroma and flavor. The brewery hails from the tiny town of Enterprise in the eastern half of Oregon where the clouds aren’t as prominent as they are in Portland. But you wouldn’t know it from the looks of this orange-tinged beer that’s as cloudy as a winter sky. A nice skiff of nearly white foam forms quickly in the pour, but disappears just as swiftly. Those aromas of citrus and pine resin are mirrored in flavor, and met with spicy and herbal notes, supported by a sturdy malt backbone. In all, a very quaffable IPA.

There’s a glorious interplay of hop flavors in this dark golden, Oregon-brewed IPA, kicking off in the aroma, which is deep and gorgeously inviting, redolent of mango, orange and tinned peaches. More of the same follows in the lusciously fruity taste that, for all the leafy hop character, is really not too bitter. Tangy, earthy hop notes mark the drying, softly bitter finish. A very good, complex, fresh-tasting IPA that in the hands of a skilled kitchen could provide the essence of a great, palate-freshening sorbet.
