(Press Release)

AUSTIN, Texas—Just in time for easy, breezy spring days perfect for skipping class and hanging out on the field, Alamo Drafthouse and Austin Beerworks are stoked to announce the release of their first-ever collaboration, the EVERYBODY WANTS SOME Beer. Not just a declaration of one of life’s truisms – we mean, everybody DOES want some beer, right? – this bright, “crushable” lager is inspired by the latest film from Austin’s hometown hero Richard Linklater.

A “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused set in the world of 1980 college life, “EVERYBODY WANTS SOME” from Paramount Pictures and Annapurna Pictures is a comedy that follows a group of friends as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood. In other words, the perfect inspiration for a supremely drinkable canned lager.

“This is definitely a beer drinking movie – it’s a big piece of that hard partying college world,” says Linklater. “It’s flattering and fitting that these two institutions in my own backyard, Alamo Drafthouse and Austin Beerworks, would come together to celebrate the release of EVERYBODY WANTS SOME in this way. Downing a can or two of beer while watching it certainly feels appropriate – but you should probably resist any urge to shotgun them.”

The EVERYBODY WANTS SOME Beer will take the field this April, just in time for the film’s release. Look for it in stores in Austin and at select Alamo Drafthouse locations across Texas in specially designed, long-drinking 16-ounce “tallboy” cans. Clocking in at an easygoing 4.5% ABV (Alcohol By Volume), the EWS Beer will indeed be supremely crushable – perfect downing on the field or quenching your post-queso thirst at Alamo. Supplies will be limited.

“We love celebrating films and filmmakers we’re passionate about in unique ways… and we love beer.  We like to say ‘Drafthouse’ is in our name for a reason,” says Alamo CEO and Founder, Tim League. “Paying tribute to Rick’s latest with a one-of-a-kind beer from one of my favorite breweries? It’s exactly the kind of project that excites us and blurs the line between work and fun.”

Collaborating with fellow Austinites and canned craft beer heroes Austin Beerworks was a natural choice and marks the first local beer collaboration for Alamo Drafthouse. The ABW team really knocked it out of the park with a recipe for beer that’s big on flavor while staying true to the spirit of the film.

“EVERYBODY WANTS SOME is our favorite kind of beer: extremely drinkable while still being interesting,” explains Austin Beerworks Head Brewer, William Golden. A clean, dry finish with small additions of wheat and oats leave behind a hint of body.  Saphir and Jaryllo hops provide bright orchard fruit and floral notes.  If we had to call it a certain style, it would be “Dry-hopped Texas Common Beer” – but we prefer to just drink it.

EVERYBODY WANTS SOME stars Will Brittain, Zoey Deutch, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Blake Jenner, J. Quinton Johnson, Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell. The film is written and directed by Richard Linklater. Produced by Megan Ellison, Ginger Sledge and Richard Linklater.

EVERYBODY WANTS SOME opens in theaters beginning April 1, 2016.
