Baltimore, MD – On Friday, December 21, the Mayan calendar will expire, alongside planet earth, and Flying Dog Brewery will hold the largest tap takeover ever at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore.

“As Maryland’s largest brewery – a title we can now take to the grave – It only felt right to host the largest tap takeover in the history of the world at one of the world’s greatest craft beer bars,” Flying Dog VP of Marketing Ben Savage said. “I now feel a sense of validation, completion, and overall ease as I put my kids to sleep each night, stroking their heads and telling them that everything is going to be OK.”

Max’s, in historic Fells Point, will have 56 Flying Dog beers on tap beginning at 5 pm. In addition to Flying Dog’s year-round and seasonal offerings, more small-batch, limited releases will be available including vintage Kujo Imperial Coffee Stout, all six 2012 Single Hop Imperial IPAs, and the premiere of the first, and last, 2013 Brewhouse Rarities release, a Chipotle Dark Ale.

Savage explained that even though the end will be inevitably near, the brewery made some strategic beer choices for this epic event. “Vaporization will be mere minutes away, but showcasing our first Brewhouse Rarities release for 2013 will provide people with a false sense of hope that they will not be led into the blinding light of a fiery inferno.”

All attendees at the event will also receive a ticket for Flying Dog’s Rapture Raffle, which includes a host of prizes that could be useful for those who may actually survive the end of the world.

“We’d be remiss if we ignored the Will Smith and his German Shepard factor,” Savage said. “So we’re aiming to arm anyone able to survive the apocalypse with survival tools like industrial-sized packs of toilet paper and ‘Leonard Bernstein’s Greatest Hits’ on cassette.”

In addition, both Max’s Taphouse and Flying Dog Brewery agreed to invest in a really big countdown clock.

And speaking of countdowns, beginning tomorrow – Tuesday, November 13, a number that was particularly significant to the Mayans – Flying Dog will countdown to the event by releasing a beer that will be on tap at Max’s each day until the end of days. Those interested can follow the countdown on the brewery’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/FlyingDog) or Twitter feed (Twitter.com/FlyingDog).
