DURHAM, N.C.–All About Beer Magazine welcomes John Mallett, Director of Brewing Operations at the renowned Bell’s Brewery to this Saturday’s World Beer Festival—Durham. The event returns for the 20th year to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park this Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, 2015.
John Mallett has managed all beer production for award-winning Bell’s Brewery, Inc. in Kalamazoo, Mich. since 2001, leading many of its brands to near cult status among beer enthusiasts across the country. The brewery’s beers include several award-winning favorites, such as Two Hearted Ale, Expedition Stout, Oberon, and the Stouts of November series. Mallett’s presentations on Saturday (3 p.m. and 9 p.m.) will focus on his recent popular book, “Malt: A Practical Guide from Field to Brewhouse.”
Throughout his 26-year professional brewing career, Mallett has been recognized for his expertise and leadership in brewery technical education and training. He serves on many boards and technical committees, including the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, Brewers Association, Hop Quality Group, and American Malting Barley Association. He has authored more than 40 brewing technical papers and presentations and, since 1995, is a member of the extended faculty of Siebel Institute of Technology. In 2002, Mallett received the Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing.
“We are thrilled to welcome John to Durham this weekend, and very appreciative of his time to come meet beer lovers in Durham. His experience and track record speaks for itself, and I am looking very forward to his presentation on the role of malt in beer. The weather looks fantastic for another memorable World Beer Festival weekend.” says Chris Rice, President of All About Beer and producer of the six World Beer Festivals.
Tickets can be purchased through eTix and at both Sam’s Quik Shop and Bottle Shop locations, and worldbeerfestival.com. As with recent past festivals the number of tickets available for sale has been reduced and the size of the pour has gone from 2 ounces to 4 ounces. Combined, these two changes allow more time to enjoy samples from over 250 different beers. The festival offers two sessions, 12-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m.
