Deep reddish-brown topped with a tight, long-lasting tan foam. Earthy nose in the style of Bavarian dunkel, though with a thin malty character and slight hop acidity more mass-market that microbrew. Good, but not great, it could use a bigger mouthfeel and more character. Subtle but clean aftertaste. Pleasant with tea-smoked pheasant and potatoes au gratin followed with golden beet salad and crumbled blue cheese.

Brazilians rejoice. Great craft beer has arrived. A chestnut-red, dark brown lager topped with a rich, European-style mousy head. Roasted malt emerges lusciously and gently encourages a vivid thirst. Smooth dark German-style lager more “German” than most dark (dunkel) lagers I find in Germany. Skillfully balanced. Remarkably fresh. Great drinkability. A beach beer, food beer, night beer, day beer, simply an anytime beer. Samba anyone? Best served with music Forro. I’ll pay lots of Reais for this brew when I’m in Brazil.
