Fish Brewing Co., “nestled in the heart of the Republic of Cascadia,” has a long-standing committment to environmental issues, in particular the protection of the area’s rivers. This amber ale is brewed with pale, Munich, honey, and crystal malt and Hallertauer hops certified organic by Oregon Tilth and the California Organic Foods Act of 1990.
Original gravity: 1056
Handsome deep salmon colored ale with seafoam head pours like a wave and quickly subsides. The yeasty nose of fresh hops and roasted barley is balanced but seems ever so green. So does the earthy taste of malt, obviously present but slightly thin and lacking real depth, like a fish out of water. Kudos for organic ingredients but proof that organic alone is not a guarantee of greatness. Recommended with, you guessed it, fried fish, oysters and other seafood.

Deep amber color with a lingering head. A quintessential sweet and citrus-like American hop aroma. It certainly has hop flavor and bitterness, but rather than being assertive, it is very well balanced with a full malt flavor. Hop flavor is herbal with a softness that really promotes extraordinary drinkability. Well-crafted, full-flavored amber ale. Suitable for all palates. Enjoy with abandon.
- Charlie Papazian
Pale copper color with a dense, rocky head, this beer made from organic materials has a pungent, resiny and spicy hop aroma and a “fruit cake” maltiness from the darker malts. Malt and dark, dried grape flavors dominate the mouth, while the finish has a good balance of malt, fruit and hop characteristics. A fine beer to go with cheese, especially the blue varieties. A hunk of fresh, crusty bread, a wedge of Stilton and an amber ale would be my idea of heaven.
