Despite the gimmicky double entendre of a name employed by the brewery, SweetWater‘s Happy Ending Imperial Stout is undoubtedly a wonderful beer. All the usual suspects are accounted for – coffee, toffee and dark chocolate amidst a sweet and floral nose. What you’ll also find is this beer is deceptively strong. You hardly know you’re getting into a 9 percenter. In light of the many impositions imperial stouts can bring to the table (i.e. bitterness, overwhelming darkness and alcohol burn), this beer has none of them. From the sturdy and creamy head to the slippery and rich finish, this beer is perhaps fitting of the implicit name.
