Hazelnut Brown NectarMarch 5, 2013
Style: Brown Ale
Editor’s Note: In the March issue of All About Beer Magazine, publisher Daniel Bradford wrote that he was “looking for the great brown beers, for porters and dark ales that comfort and don’t intimidate” to usher him through the final months of winter. In response, Rogue Ales president Brett Joyce sent us a bottle of Hazelnut Brown Nectar.
Staff Review: Throws off a beautiful light brown head, with an amber brown hue in the beer. Chocolate and hazelnut aroma, very yummy. Doesn’t have the off-putting side of hazelnut, the sweetness, but rich with the dry flavor of hazelnut. Medium body with dense carbonation. Big time hazelnut finish after a nice toasty, malty beginning. Hints of maple and a bit of caramel, with a much dryer, bitter finish than one would expect from the flavor. Already considered a classic.
