Kaiser PilsMay 1, 2008 Pittsburgh, PA
Pennsylvania Brewing Co. Pittsburgh, PA Available: PA, DE, MD, VA, OH, WV, FL, NY Kaiser is a northern German-style pale lager. Alcohol (vol): 5.0 Alcohol (wt): 3.98 Color: 4.0 Bitterness: 46 Original gravity: 10446
Light straw hues with bright white head. Floral nose is pleasant and clean with mostly malty notes. Light on the palate, sparkling, easy to drink session beer with slight but pristine aftertaste. Well-made, if not distinguished — perhaps more commoner than Kaiser. Enjoyable for lunch with a veggie sandwich on freshly baked beer bread garnished with organic corn chips and freshly made salsa.

Don’t let the clear, straw color fool you. This beer is packed with aromas and flavors that belie its alcohol by volume (5%). The nose is perfume for pilsner lovers, a fresh combination of pilsner malt and noble hops, grainy and grassy in the good way. The bready body leaves a firm, lean impression, not imposing on spicy, floral hops. Balanced through the long finish, with a flowery bitterness that helps define noble hops.
