This stout is brewed with eight types of malted barley and wheat, and dryhopped in the fermented, where fresh vanilla beans and roasted oak chips are added.

Although the color is bittersweet chocolate and the head a frothy mocha—both characteristic of classic stouts—this is no me-too. The complex nose, apparently the result of the addition of vanilla and oak chips, is the first indication of individuality. Although there’s plenty of the expected licorice, coffee and espresso on the palate, there is also a steely, dry medicinal flavor that made it an ideal match with meals ranging from grilled wild Copper River salmon to Pasta Fagoli, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil.

How could anyone resist the beauty of the pour! Beautiful head and underlying dark allure. Roasted malt and barley explode in aroma and introduces a rich cocoa-caramel-roast complexity. Smooth, with just enough hop character. The malts really do all the “talking” with this wonderfully balanced stout. Please—someone send me some cold water oysters on the half-shell!

Dense barley-white head with a rich mocha coffee aroma and powerful hints of roasted grain and vanilla. A big coffee-and-vanilla ice cream palate is underscored by deep bitterness from roasted malts and hops. A long finish with rich vanilla, chocolate and coffee notes, with a good underpinning of hops. A stunning beer that would go well with either fish dishes or chocolate desserts.
