This beer pours dark mahogany with an impressive tan head. There is a clear coffee taste with strong roasted bean notes coming off the top. Organic Portland Roast Espresso Stout is lighter in body than expected (and deceptively sessionable at 6.3 percent ABV), yet has a somewhat underwhelming body for the flavor suggested by the notes and the label. One staff member felt the punch the brew delivered in its aroma didn’t come through in the beer. Yet others agreed that this was the perfect beer for the cold, rainy day in winter in which it was sampled; it went down smooth and easy. It is available in 22-ounce bottles throughout Oregon and Washington, another reason to live in the Pacific Northwest.
