I broke out a bottle of Dogfish Head‘s Palo Santo Marron for my father during a recent visit. He is more of a wine man himself and I thought this might be a good way to introduce him to my world of craft beer. This brown ale is aged in wood. Not just any wood I might add, rather Palo Santo (“holy wood”) from Paraguay. The beer pours dark with little head. Notes of molasses greet the nose. The gooey viscosity of the beer doesn’t hide the strength but the 12 percent ABV won’t give you a burn. If you are worried about the wood, it’s finish is subtle and slight. My father enjoyed Palo Santo Marron as did I.
