Served out of a 22 oz bomber, this beer pours ruby with an inch thick manila head that quickly dissipates and leaves a little lacing. Off The Rails is an imperial red (a beefed up version of Karl Strauss Brewing’s Red Trolley Ale) with sweet molasses and citrusy hop notes. It’s fuller in body than an imperial pilsner but not nearly as resinous and chewy as double IPAs can be. Mouthfeel is biscuity. It finishes dry with strawberry ice cream, kettle corn and a root vegetable-accentuated fade. There’s a slight alcohol burn but it is not overly offensive. I’d love to try this beer on tap.
