Great Divide notes that this “’liquid bread’…sustained monks through periods of penitent fasting,” but we’re not so sure this surprisingly light-bodied beer would keep us alive. Yet, that’s not a bad thing.

Wolfgang pours a deep amber with a light head and carries heavy fruit, much like black cherries, on the nose. Starting spicy and peppery, the beer finishes with an atypical dramatic hop finish for this style. At 8 percent ABV, there’s a bit of heat on the end but not so much to knock the beer out of the “easy-drinking” category.

Wolfgang, in Great Divide’s Tank Farm series, is available July-September in 22-oz. bottles and 5-gal. kegs in Great Divide’s distribution area.
