Since its inception in 1984, the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) has grown into one of the largest international beer competitions, together with Europe’s biennial Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA), and the U.S.-based World Beer Cup.

Although historically the awards have been the showcase for beers of the Asian Pacific region, the global nature of the competition is demonstrated by the 1074 entries from 42 countries. American brewers, including BridgePort, Deschutes, Rogue, Boston Beer, Spoetzl and Pete’s have competed successfully and used the AIBA to explore export markets.

The AIBA also demonstrates the competitive strength of Australian craft beers and the growing interest a diverse range specialty styles, with Australian-brewed rauchbiers, Belgian-style wits and spiced beers taking medals.
