St. Louis’ Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. is opening a brewery in the Bavarian town of Wolnzach, Hallertau. The small brewery space was formerly occupied by the closed Bürgerbräu Wolnzach.

The new venture is also a return home for co-founder and brewmaster Florian Kuplent, who was born and raised in Bavaria.

“Since my apprenticeship as a teenager at Erharting Brauerei, I’ve always dreamed of owning my own brewery in Bavaria,” Kuplent said in a release.

Having a brewery on German grounds will allow Urban Chestnut to distribute beers across Europe and brew German beers to export to the United States. The brewery will also act as a point of operations for importing and exporting raw materials, beer and other goods to and from the United States. It is expected to open later in 2015.
