LIEGE, Belgium—Breweries from Belgium and the United States won the most medals Sunday at the second annual Brussels Beer Challenge, an international competition organized by BECOMEV. Belgian breweries claimed 66 awards (20 gold, 15 silver, 16 bronze and 15 honorable mentions), U.S. breweries earned 33 awards (nine gold, 13 silver, 11 bronze and three honorable mentions) and Italy won 26 awards (four gold, nine silver, six bronze and seven honorable mentions).

The Boston Beer Co. led all U.S. breweries with 10 medals, including gold medals for Samuel Adams Fat Jack (in the Herb & Spice category) and Samuel Adams Imperial Stout (in the Russian Imperial Stout category). The brewery also won four silver medals, four bronze medals and one honorable mention.

Six U.S. breweries won multiple medals, including Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Alltech’s Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., Deschutes Brewery, Left Hand Brewing Co., North Coast Brewing Co. and Anderson Valley Brewing Co.

An international panel of 50 tasters judged 592 beers from breweries in 15 countries.
