Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. announced last week that they with begin a partnership with the Trappist-Cistercian Abbey of New Clairvaux to create the only authentic Trappist style Abbey ales in America.

This closely guarded tradition has hid behind monastery walls for nearly 1,000 years. The press release also goes on to say that the three Belgian-style Abbey ales will be made in accordance with traditions upheld for centuries by the monks. The beers will be only available for a limited time and rotate throughout the seasons. The first in the series will be a dubbel, the second a saison and the thrid a quadrupel. Proceeds will benefit the Abbey of New Clairvaux to rebuild a 12th-century chapter house in Vina, CA, where the monastary is located.
