GRANDY, NC – The Weeping Radish Farm Brewery, North Carolina’s oldest microbrewery, is pleased to announce the release of its 2012 Christmas Beer. This annual tradition is now in its 26th year.

The goal of the Weeping Radish Farm Brewery and Butchery is to work together with local farms to use as many locally grown ingredients as possible. “We need to grow our local food chain at every level and make sure that local farms are not just sustainable, but also profitable” says Uli Bennewitz, Founder of the Weeping Radish.

Brewmaster Nick Williams purchased the barley from Hoffner Farms, an organic dairy in Mount Ulla, NC. The Wheat Malt was grown at Looking Back Farm operated by Kenny Haines a pioneer in organic production in North Carolina. Looking Back Farm is located west of Elizabeth City, NC. Both malts were malted for the Weeping Radish by Riverbend Malthouse in Asheville, NC.

As in previous brews, the Cascade hops came from Echo View Farm in Weaverville, NC, where all crops are grown based on organic principals.

The Weeping Radish Christmas Beer is a smooth, dark Doppel Bock, well-aged with an alcohol percentage of around 7.6%, the beer will be bottled unfiltered, in both 22 oz. and liter bottles. As is traditional, the year will also be printed on the label.

In order to pay local farmers a fair price for their products and work, the ingredient cost for this beer is over double the industry norm. For this reason the beer is not sold through our regular distributors and will only be available at the brewery in Grandy, either bottled or draft.

Nick will bottle the weekend before Thanksgiving. Our Christmas Beer is a wonderful treat for the season, either as a Christmas present or to be enjoyed at the Weeping Radish.
