This reputable brewery’s seasonal, a cellarable ale derived from their popular Arrogant Bastard Ale brew, pours a murky ruby red with a small head that at first look reminds me of my mother’s homemade iced tea. Caramel and toffee notes come off the top coupled with a strong malt backbone. It’s got a viscosity not unlike barley wines (and an ABV of 10.5 percent much like them). As always, the label art and subsequent “diatribe” provide ample entertainment, like gatefold vinyl records back in the day: not only can you consume this beer but it might educate you as well. A rapacious ale indeed.
