In 1881, four Scots living in the hill country of Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) established a brewery, the forerunner of Ceylon Brewery, to cater to the British settlers in the area. Production expanded as beer drinking gained acceptance beyond the expatriate customers, and today the brewery is the country’s market leader.
