It’s a conversation about both history and modern beer with Alan Pugsley, the long-time brewery consultant who helped launch so many breweries in the early days of the craft movement and more recently has gotten into the gluten-free beer space.
Pugsley is likely best known for his time at both D.L Geary Brewing and Shipyard Brewing. He was also the U.S. presence for selling the Peter Austin Brewing Systems, a U.K. creation.
“A lot of the clients I had back in those days, with obvious exceptions, were lawyers, there was doctors, there was a dentist there were people who had actually made some money in a well-paid profession and they thought it’d be fun to build a brewery,” he says.
