DETROIT, Mich.—Atwater Brewery, Detroit’s largest and fastest growing craft brewer, will celebrate the opening of Detroit’s newest Biergarten and Taphouse, the Atwater Biergarten and Taphouse, with a Grand Opening party Wednesday, November 25, starting at 4:00pm.
Atwater’s Biergarten and Taphouse is adjacent to the Atwater Brewery at 237 Joseph Campau in Detroit. The event is open to the public with $1 Atwater brews offered from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M, making the biggest bar day of the year even better.
“We’re especially excited with this new space because it’s an opportunity to connect with customers in our home market and it also allows us to showcase our main brewery,” says Atwater owner Mark Rieth. “We’re proud to be in the historic Rivertown district in a 96-year-old building, but we’re equally proud of our state-of-the-art German brewing equipment that’s on display through a wall-to-wall window behind the bar.”
The 5,000 sq foot location includes a 25-seat bar that spans the length of the brewery and has been fully restored in preparation for the opening. The venue has a total capacity of 125 (plus private dining space) with community seating available and 20 beers on tap. Atwater’s spirits, wines and hard cider will also be available.
Atwater has been on a fast growth track during the past two years as it has added production capabilities to take capacity to over 40,000 barrels a year, expanded distribution to 30+ states and Canada, launched new Atwater Spirits and Detroit Dry Cider brands, opened the award-winning Atwater in the Park Biergarten and Taphouse in Grosse Pointe Park, and announced plans for a Biergarten and Taphouse in Grand Rapids.
“This new facility is a signature location for an Atwater biergarten,” says Rieth. “We’ve said all along that we want to ‘bring Detroit everywhere’ and now we’re bringing it to the most important place of all – home! We’ve incorporated our heritage into the DNA of the place and we look forward to sharing our home with all of metro Detroit over the coming years.”
Led by its Dirty Blonde Ale and Vanilla Java Porter, Atwater now offers more than two dozen labels and will launch a new original Rivertown Porter and Lebkuchen Christmas Ale at the Grand Opening celebration. Guests will also have an opportunity to sample a variety of Atwater’s other distinctive tap beers as well as the new biergarten menu which will feature items like Gourmet Pizzas, White Bean Shredded Chicken Chili and Fish Tacos.
The Atwater Biergarten and Taphouse is the third in a series of new biergarten and tap houses that the brewery plans to open in Michigan and across the country in the coming years. The first, Atwater in the Park, is an award-winning venue and was recently named a ‘Top Ten New Beer Hall in the Nation’ and the number #1 ‘Most Traditional,’ by Jetsetter Magazine. Atwater’s previously announced location in Grand Rapids will open in spring inside the historic Rowe Hotel building.
