Social media is an important part of our lives. We wish people a happy birthday, find out about births or deaths, stay in touch with people, are entertained by hilarious videos and get our opinions out across to everyone (for better or worse). Breweries use social media as well, a sort of visual Yellow Pages to get out their vision, their beers and their events to the masses.
But with an everchanging world and social media constantly changing its rules, how do breweries adapt and change?
On this episode of the All About Beer podcast, we talk to three guests about how they handle trolls, creating content, and showcasing what their brewery does in a thoughtful way that stays true to their brand values.
Guests
Julie Rhodes is a 20-year veteran of the food and beverage industry, owning Not Your Hobby Marketing Solutions, a fractional consulting and educational services company, and a Co-Founder of Kick Fizz, a low-dose hemp-infused beverage brand. She specializes in beverage sales, digital marketing, distributor management, and business strategy, helping craft beverage brands work smarter, not harder. A sought-after speaker, business journalist, and instructor for multiple university programs, Julie was named the 2023 Brewers Association Mentor of the Year. She is also an active member of numerous trade associations and state-level guilds.
Christa Brenner (aka: Party Mom) runs the marketing and creative teams at Short’s Brewing Company, Michigan’s largest and probably scrappiest independent craft brewery. Since 2020 she’s helped the 22 year old company execute a comprehensive rebrand, launch countless products, and push creative to be as weird and as fun as humanly possible. She connects community partners and natural-resource protectors to further Short’s mission of making the world a better place while keeping Northern Michigan awesome. In her previous life she ran an ad agency, leading strategy and creative for clients like Merrell Footwear (fun fact: she hiked 32 miles on location in Northern Cali while 32 weeks pregnant). If she’s not at Short’s, you’ll find her digging thru vintage treasures or on Torch Lake.
Liz Wilson joined Allagash in 2019 as the Social Media Specialist after working in digital marketing at agencies in Boston and New York City. She is currently the Senior Marketing Manager, overseeing the company’s social media strategy, digital media, national campaign programming, partnerships, and more. Liz also serves on the Brewers Association’s PR & Marketing Committee. Outside of Allagash, she enjoys eating chocolate, pretending to be crafty, and exploring Maine with her husband, son, and dog.
