PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kansas (September 8, 2025) — Today, Big Grove officially released initial plans and renderings of its latest expansion project, slated to open in the spring of 2026, in Prairie Village, Kansas.
“We’re ecstatic about opening a Big Grove taproom in the Kansas City Metro,” said Matt Swift, CEO and Co-Founder of Big Grove. “We toured multiple locations in the area, and Prairie Village immediately made us feel like we were at home in a more neighborhood setting, part of the community. The site itself at The Shops of Prairie Village is undergoing a transformation and we’re looking forward to being a catalyst of that change.”
The taproom and brewery will be located at the site of the old Macy’s department store at West 71st Street and Mission Road which sat dormant for over a decade but earlier this year went through a “wall breaking” ceremony.
“Big Grove Brewery’s commitment to community and their unique vision make them a perfect addition to The Shops of Prairie Village,” said Emily Gagliardi, Senior Vice President, Head of Leasing, East and Central at First Washington Realty. “As a gathering place for the neighborhood, The Shops of Prairie Village is built on experiences that bring people together, and Big Grove will add an exciting new chapter to that story and help ensure the center remains vibrant for years to come.”
Big Grove Brewery brings a distinguished reputation for igniting economic growth in the communities it joins. Its vibrant, locally-inspired, expansive taprooms have breathed new life into neighborhoods in Solon, Iowa City, Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa—and a new location is set to open this September in a repurposed steel mill in Omaha, Nebraska.
Beyond its craft beer and exceptional locally-inspired culinary offerings, Big Grove is celebrated for its deep community involvement. Through its dedicated nonprofit, Big Grove for Good, the brewery supports hundreds of local events each year, partnering with nonprofit organizations, neighborhoods, and grassroots initiatives. Earlier this year, Big Grove introduced The Neighborhood Beer—a first-of-its-kind program in the beer industry designed to fund small-scale, high-impact community projects. For every case of Neighborhood Beer sold, $1 goes directly to Big Grove for Good to support micro-grants across the brewery’s taproom and distribution regions.
With a new taproom planned for The Shops of Prairie Village, and Big Grove beers already being distributed in the market since this March, the community is eligible for these micro-grants as well as Big Grove’s annual community grant program.
Construction on the site has begun, with an anticipated opening in the first half of 2026. More updates about the taproom plans and construction timeline will be released once the project fully commences.
